Orono High School opened their 2025 baseball season with a tough loss on the road, falling to Brewer 6-1 on April 14. The long-anticipated Opening Day carried plenty of excitement, but the energy quickly shifted as Brewer took control early and never looked back. The Red Riots struggled to gain momentum throughout the game, and as the innings wore on, the lead became harder to close. By the final out, the scoreboard told a frustrating story. A 6-1 defeat that hit hard for a team and community eager to kick off the season on a high note.
The loss was especially devastating given the hype surrounding Opening Day and the strong support from fans who made the trip to Brewer. There’s always something special about the first game of the season: fresh uniforms, renewed optimism, and the feeling that anything is possible. But walking away with a loss on day one stings a little more when it’s against a well-known rival. Still, it’s only the beginning of a long season, and Orono will now look ahead with a focus on bouncing back and rewriting the narrative in the games to come.
